Lakers and Luke Walton agree to part ways

If anything, Laker fans should be hopeful that former Cavs' general manager, and new Pelicans' general manager, David Griffin will help and old friend in LeBron.

The former Lakers forward went 98-148 in his first permanent head coaching job.

ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported that Lue is a strong frontrunner to replace Walton as head coach of the Lakers.

"We would like to thank Luke for his dedicated service over the last three years", general manager Rob Pelinka said.

The Luke Walton era in Los Angeles is over.

Walton was hired by the Lakers in 2016 after Byron Scott piloted the iconic franchise to its worst season ever, a 17-65 train wreck in Kobe Bryant's final season.

Much of Wednesday I was on the phone with people who know the Lakers well, and they all agreed Johnson was an abysmal hire.

"I'm disappointed for Luke", Kerr said via Anthony Slater.

Walton played in the National Basketball Association from 2003 to 2013, winning two National Basketball Association titles as a Lakers player. The Lakers announced on March 30 that he was done for the season.

Williams' last head coaching position was when he led the New Orleans Pelicans from 2010-15.

Speculation is already centering on James' former coach with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Tyronn Lue, who was sacked by the Cavs after an 0-6 start to the second post-LeBron era.

James and the Lakers' players have been uniformly supportive of Walton, who managed to keep his team playing hard and harmoniously under the Los Angeles microscope despite multiple major injuries and distractions.

"He's been great for us", Fox said during the All-Star Break. "They're losing somebody who players believe in, players want to play for". "They did everything right, I'll say that".

James played in 55 games this season and averaged 27.4 points, 8.5 rebounds and 8.3 assists per game.
