River flooding expected by end of week

The river is projected to reach 47.1 feet this weekend before it begins to go down.

The Omaha-Valley Weather Service office said a levee was breached in Nebraska's Dodge County.

As of 1:15 p.m. Friday, the National Weather Service has issued several Flood Warnings along the Missouri River, including portions where the river runs through the Kansas City metro. The river is expected to top levels of the 2011 Missouri River Flood. The releases could worsen flooding downstream, though the agency was helping with levee monitoring and other flood response measures, and it stopped releases from Fort Randall Dam upstream from Gavins Point.

A powerful, late-winter "bomb cyclone" storm has bombarded the Rocky Mountain and Plains states with blizzards, floods and tornados, and prompted precautions at a Nebraska nuclear power plant. The Cooper Nuclear Station near Brownville, NE could also shut down due to rising flood waters.
