The Mavs' team owner vows to keep Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis together for a very long time.

Porzingis said the plan all along was to sit out the season.

The reason it didn't take both sides very long to work things out is because the Mavs and Knicks had been talking about a deal that would swap Tim Hardaway Jr. for Wesley Mathews, per Stein. "Now that we have an opportunity to play together, I'm really excited about it". The Knicks gets two future first-round picks.

Apparently, Cuban believes he's learned from that infamous decision, judging from what he told The New York Times' Marc Stein.

Porzingis has strong pre-existing relationships with the 40-year-old Dirk Nowitzki and the Mavericks' rising Slovenian star Luka Doncic.

Porzingis was selected in the 2015 NBA Draft, but played overseas for Sevilla in Spain from 2011 until he came to the United States.

Porzingis had dinner with J.J. Barea after arriving in Dallas, and the Mavericks guard who is out for the season with a torn Achilles tendon said Porzingis had plenty of questions about the 2011 title run led by Nowitzki and sparked in the NBA Finals by Barea. "I feel bouncy and I'm ready to get back on the court". "He's probably way ahead of the curve... he's way better than I was at 20".

"I see two guys who are going to put their own signature on their positions", general manager Donnie Nelson said. Especially if this draft approaches and the Mavs struggle in 2020-21, it makes this selection more valuable. He hopes that's the just the beginning of story time with Dirk. "This is one of the most exciting times I think I've ever been a part of, having potentially two young players of their caliber for our fans to watch".

The Knicks made Porzingis available in the trade market in large part due to indications from his camp that he did not envision a long-term future in NY and was willing to make a major financial sacrifice this summer to become an unrestricted free agent next offseason.
