Late goals from Ousmane Dembele and Luis Suarez earned La Liga champions Barcelona a 3-2 win at struggling Rayo Vallecano on Saturday to keep them clear at the top of the standings.
Lionel Messi is available to play for Barcelona, having recovered from the the broken arm he suffered October 20 that sidelined him for three games. As a result, the visitors may go unchanged in this one but let's take a look at their likely eleven for the match. But wins, in any form, can not be overlooked.
As the video shows, Messi has scored goals against AC Milan, Roma, Juventus but he has not scored against Inter Milan in three different occasions and given his injury and well-being, it is highly unlikely that Messi would make a fourth appearance against Inter and ultimately break the deadlock.
More crucially, key players have delivered while others, less prominent, have stepped up.
Luis Suarez scored twice on Saturday, the second an 89th-minute victor to complete a late comeback against Rayo.
Valverde said of not including the Argentinian in his matchday 18: "We didn't want to take a risk with Leo. Of course it's necessary to get Messi back as soon as possible". We can't head to London now thinking of a draw - that would be a mistake.
"The whole team has taken a step forward", the Spain worldwide said.
"Rafinha is a player who moves well between lines", Valverde said after the win over Inter.
Only last month, the pressure mounting on Valverde was not incomparable to that felt by Julen Lopetegui at Real Madrid.
Even with Lionel Messi sidelined with a broken arm, Barcelona have continued winning.
The two favourites in Group A are not guaranteed a path to the last 16 yet, however, after Club Brugge claimed a stunning 4-0 win at Monaco.
