2018-19 College Basketball Season Previews: Kansas Jayhawks

Duke seemed unstoppable Tuesday night, but surely there's a team or two who can at least threaten the Blue Devils' dominance. What makes things even more freakish is Duke's side consisted mostly of freshmen (first year students).

Grimes scored 21 points in his college debut and Lawson added 20 points in his first game with the Jayhawks, helping Kansas stymie No. 10 Michigan State's late charge for a 92-87 victory in the season-opening Champions Classic.

"I'm really proud of my guys", he said. Also, he showed off his knack for knocking down contested shots around the basket, shooting 3-of-4 from the field and ending with seven points and four rebounds.

No team has ever scored more points against John Calipari-coached Kentucky team. "RJ stepped it up even more in the first half with Zion and Cam in foul trouble". Now we know what they can actually do. "Hopefully we'll also raise our level that maybe we haven't seen yet, too, going there".

Keldon Johnson scored 23 points to lead Kentucky. Finishing second on the team in scoring with 12.6 points per game, Winston led the team with 6.8 assists per game and in 3-point field goal percentage, connecting on 49.7 percent of his shots from long distance (75-of-151).

After making it 59-42 at halftime, Duke kept pulling away throughout the second half. And curiously enough, Parker is taking less corner 3-pointers than any point in his career-and I mean a dramatic decline in attempt rate-which is weird considering that he has an elite percentage from that specific area (career 40 percent on corner 3-pointers).

Kentucky only got as close as 27 until the waning moments. "He understands the game and he's got a good handle". Kentucky was trailing by double-digits for pretty much the entire game and Duke's core of elite freshman simply overpowered Calipari's Wildcats. It was set up to be one of the biggest match ups between two hated rivals in Kentucky and Duke; however, no one foreseen what was about to happen.

Jones says he's never seen anything like it anywhere - even at Duke - and, when it's all said and done, he's got everything it takes to jump over those other Blue Devil greats. Once Coach Cal figures out which style of play fits this team the best and which lineups work better than the others, it should be a special season to watch. Jones had four rebounds and seven assists, while Reddish added 22 points in 24 minutes. The Wildcats were outscored 60-38 in the paint.

In some cases, a team doesn't decide that it should purposely lose games until near the end of the season, in part because the NBA Draft Lottery gives teams with a worse win-loss record a higher chance of attaining the first overall pick. Duke would go on to shoot over 50 percent from the floor. No. 4 Duke is the second game at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.

The Wildcats have won 12 straight games dating to last season and won their 16th consecutive season opener. "He said all you guys hit the genetic lottery but Zion hit it twice". "As we mature, we'll be able to stop those blows and flip it".

But in a game pitting two of the Power Five conference preseason favorites, the Spartans made the finish as intriguing as expected.

Calipari said Williamson's effort against Kentucky's big bodies was unexpected.
