West replied: "It was from the soul".
Referring to a prisoner whose case he is raising with the president, West said, "Really, the reason why they imprisoned him is because he started doing positive for the community". Try setting up your iPhone with a passcode like West's, for instance, and Apple (AAPL) warns you that passcode - as well as passcodes with all the same number or "123456" - can be easily guessed.
Kanye - who last month announced he had changed his stage name to "Ye" - was visiting the White House to have lunch with the President and discuss issues he feels are most important to African Americans.
Seated across from Trump at the famous Resolute Desk, West began the Oval Office meeting - which also included NFL Hall of Famer Jim Brown and Trump's son-in-law and senior adviser Jared Kushner - with a almost 10-minute-long speech that the rapper said was "from the soul", according to White House pool reports. In his remarks to the president, Love, a founder of the Beach Boys, went on a tangent in praising the president for what he said were Trump's discreet efforts to rehabilitate Whitney Houston, who struggled with drug addiction and died in a hotel bath tub in 2012.
"It hurts us as people, specifically black people, the idea, because we say, was America ever great for us?"
And not only did he greet Trump with a big, affectionate cuddle, he also dubbed himself a "crazy motherfucker". The rapper said he was moving to Chicago - or "Chiraq" as he called it - to help reduce violence. "You are tasting a fine wine that has multiple notes in it", he said.
Speaking in front of a dozen cameras, West greeted Trump with open arms and shared his love for him as a "father figure" in his life.
After he finished, The president concluded, "He can speak for me any time he wants. he's a smart cookie".
West is not the first member of his family to meet with Trump. But, he said, "This hat, it gives me power in a way".
Trump asked West what he thought of the Oval Office.
It'd be cool to have "Trump factories", West added.
West even showed the United States president a gif on his phone in apparent support of his pitch. Mr. Trump didn't quite know what to say.
"But the campaign, I'm With Her, just didn't make me feel as a guy that didn't get to see my dad all the time, like a guy that could play catch with his son".
While Trump has been shunned by much of the Hollywood establishment, he has a fan in West, who tweeted earlier this year that the two share "dragon energy".
