Deon Dublin: Jose Mourinho has sucked the life out of Manchester United

Manchester City claimed their first win in Group F after seeing off Hoffenheim 2-1 in Germany.

City hit back nearly immediately when Silva's pass split the Hoffenheim defence and found Leroy Sane who put Aguero into space to tap home the equaliser on eight minutes.

"This competition isn't always a red carpet".

The humdrum feeling among the crowd and the notable fear within the team was painfully palpable as United, bedraggled and going nowhere, shuffled around the pitch uncomfortably against a Valencia team any top European side would have wiped the floor with.

"I am pretty sure what we have learnt here will be good for us in the future", he said.

A clinical performance against relatively low-key German opposition-especially without one of their biggest names-would underline their intent. Now, Hoffenheim have been scoring as of late but City has kept three straight clean sheets since their champions league home defeat.

"We've had one semifinal, one quarterfinal".

Normal service was quickly resumed, though, when a fine ball from Silva found the outstanding Leroy Sane, who picked out Aguero to bundle home his eighth goal in 10 matches this season.

However, the Spaniard point-back refused to talk about match referee Damir Skomina.

When asked by reporters if he wants City to win the Champions League to complete Silva's list of honours at the highest level, the Spaniard replied : "I think everyone deserves to win it".

Guardiola - only just back from a touchline ban - was spoken to by Skomina for protesting when Silva was prevented from taking a quick throw. I've had a lot at Barca and Bayern but he's on that list.

"He is one of the best players I ever trained in my life", said Guardiola.

"He is the sort of player who steps up in the hard moments and he deserves all of my respect".

City underwent a light session which included fitness drills and a small training match as they recovered from Tuesday night's exertions.
