Emery will be aware that Newcastle won the last meeting between the two sides at St. James' Park, while his defence shipped two goals in a 3-2 win at Cardiff City before the worldwide break.

After a goalless first half Granit Xhaka scored directly from a corner to put the Gunners 1-0 ahead four minutes after the break. Today, I am happy because I want every player to have chances to score and he scored today.

Arsenal were forced to endure a nervous final few minutes after Ciaran Clark's injury time consolation and Emery was disappointed his strikers failed to make the game safe earlier.

'We need to improve and score more individually, we need we work every player, not only the attacking players the midfielders and centre backs from set pieces, ' he said.

"He has to continue helping with his quality and working hard to continue with the performances we want from him". Every competition for me I have respect for and want to do the best for. Lucas Torreira doesn't start either, and is still in search of his first Arsenal start.

Arsenal doubled their lead nine minutes later when Alexandre Lacazette's shot was blocked and Ozil drove home the ball from the edge of the area.

Emery said: "In the first half, we couldn't control the match like we wanted and we needed that control to impose our ideas, our possession and our positioning".

"But we conceded a lot of chances for transition for the counter attack". We want to give them confidence and also push them.

"I want also his best performance for us and he worked well at first and had a good match".
