Wendy Karina Martinez, 35, of Washington was jogging in Washington's Logan Circle neighborhood in Northwest D.C. just before 8 p.m. Tuesday when she was stabbed in what police say was "more than likely" a random attack.

Wendy Martinez died after she was attacked while jogging in D.C.'s Logan Circle neighborhood on Tuesday.

Crawford was arrested Wednesday night and charged with first-degree murder while armed in connection with the stabbing.

That individual saw Crawford both before and after Martinez's death, and said that he had a bandage on his hand later in the night but not earlier that day.

"Wendy should have been shopping for her wedding dress on Friday", Moore said, trying to hold back tears.

Additional details are to be made public Thursday morning by Mayor Muriel E. Bowser (D) and Police Chief Peter Newsham.

Surveillance video shows a 35 year old woman who police say was killed on September 18, 2018. Police say that Crawford is not homeless and that he did not previously know Martinez.

Martinez' death came just a week after she announced she was engaged, her family said in a statement to local news outlets. As Martinez approached the intersection, people across the street were outside on a restaurant patio, enjoying dinner.

According to charging documents obtained by WTOP, police took Crawford into questioning after staking out a park the suspect was known to frequent.

Police say Mr Crawford has a criminal history, and they will be examining him for any mental health issues.

She had been out for a run when the attack occurred, and was pronounced dead just 27 minutes after being stabbed by the man police now believe to be Crawford. After she was stabbed, she went into a restaurant trying to get help.

"This is a very isolated incident, you don't see crimes like this very often".

Martinez reportedly lived not far from where she was attacked and was said to be an avid jogger.

"This is incredibly unfair and senseless", Martinez's friend, Kristina Moore, said.

"I was texting with her two hours before her murder". 'Wendy was an invaluable member of our team and a vibrant member of the community.

In a Q&A on The Bridge, a networking website, Martinez describes what she likes to do to unwind after work. The family added that Martinez had gotten engaged last week, and described her as "an avid runner ... a devout Christian, a wonderful friend, and a driven professional".
