The makeup itself appears to be based off of a much more traditional clown style than we have previously seen for the Joker. Are you liking the tone that Todd Phillips seems to be approaching the film with?
What do you think about Joaquin Phoenix's latest Joker reveal?
Production is now underway on Todd Phillips' upcoming origin movie centered on everybody's favorite Clown Prince of Crime, The Joker. But it's a memorable announcement (set to The Guess Who's "Laughing") to preview the tone and look of this movie. Check out Phoenix's full-makeup transformation into the Joker below.
Warner Bros. recently announced Bradley Cooper (Guardians of the Galaxy, A Star is Born) boarded the project as a producer, reteaming him with his Hangover trilogy director Phillips. That same pointed look is seen in this Joker makeup, and the movie is set to take place in the '80s which would be after Gacy was caught, so maybe it serves as "real life" inspiration for an in-universe character? Currently, the film is in production and will star Joaquin Phoenix and Robert De Niro with an October 4, 2019 release date.
Other cast members include: Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz (Deadpool 2), Bill Camp (Molly's Game), Brett Cullen (Narcos), Glenn Fleshler (Barry), Douglas Hodge (Penny Dreadful) and Marc Maron (GLOW). The make-up looks a bit more clownish-Ceasar Romero than psychotic-Heath Ledger, and definitely different from whatever Jared Leto was.
The brief video clip involves a slow zoom in to Phoenix as Arthur Fleck, his protagonist's pre-Joker form, who's described in the official Warner Bros. plot synopsis as "a man disregarded by society".
