Sources confirmed that one of the Israeli settlers, Ari Fold, 40, a father of four children, died after the stabbing attack.

"Killing, expanding settlement [s], destruction, and the uprooting of the Palestinian population will not bring peace or security", President Abbas said in a meeting with former Israeli left-wing lawmakers on Sunday, Palestinian news agency WAFA reported. Video footage shows other civilians on the scene chasing and shooting the attacker, whom Israeli media identified as a 17-year-old from a nearby Palestinian village.

Ashraf al-Qedra, spokesman of the Health Ministry in Gaza said that three Palestinians were shot dead and hundreds injured by Israeli soldiers' gunfire in various areas in eastern Gaza Strip, close to the border with Israel.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu lauded Fuld on Facebook for fighting his attacker "heroically" and remembered him as "an advocate for Israel who fought to spread the truth".

One Israeli soldier has been killed since then.

"When the rockets were falling, that's when he would get in his auto and go down to Sderot", Hasten said.
