The Browns' first official game of the regular season takes place at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9 against the Pittsburgh Steelers at FirstEnergy Stadium. The Browns starting QB Tyrod Taylor completed all of his five passes for 99 yards and a touchdown. Barkley gives the Giants' backfield a tremendous shot in the arm, something that was sorely missed a year ago when the team generated just 96.8 yards on the ground per week.
Saquon Barkley wasted no time in backing up all the hype he's generated this National Football League offseason.
Mayfield was up next and, following a three-and-out, settled in on his second series, finding Rashard Higgins with a pretty back-shoulder throw on the sideline for a 26-yard gain. He continued marching the offense, twice keeping the drive alive with his legs - on third-and-6 and fourth-and-2 - to set up Cleveland with first-and-goal. However, in his second series on the field, Mayfield connected with tight end David Njoku for a short touchdown pass.
Given how many times coach Hue Jackson has been asked about his starter for 2018, and how he has consistently answered with Taylor, there's enough for a "Hard Knocks" spinoff show. Then, Cleveland fans got to see the debut of rookie quarterback Baker Mayfield.
Mayfield closed 11-of-20 for 212 yards with two scores on the night.
It's only one preseason game, but there were plenty of reasons to be hopeful.
