"I feel that way and I ask everyone, and especially our followers, to please understand me".

Ronaldo scored a record 451 goals over nine years at the Bernabeu, having signed from Manchester United and helping deliver four Champions League triumphs.

A club statement said: "Real Madrid CF communicates that, in response to the will and request expressed by the player Cristiano Ronaldo, it has agreed to transfer him to Juventus FC".

Modern great Cristiano Ronaldo left Real Madrid to join Italian champions Juventus.

What many are wondering is what to expect from the 33-year-old Ronaldo when he arrives at Juventus in August.

"They have been nine unique years", added Ronaldo.

The two clubs reached a deal reportedly worth 112 million euros (about US$132 million).

Cristiano Ronaldo has been heavily linked with a move to Juventus for the past week.

The deal also fits in with the Italian club's efforts to re-establish its reputation in an era of Premier League and La Liga dominance. Ronaldo, after all, held the Ballon d'Or five times (tied for the most ever with Lionel Messi), graced the covers of glossy magazines, has probably dated more supermodels than there are days in a year, and won almost every major trophy that's been created to honor the best players and teams in the world's most popular sport. But he still has it in him to take another league by storm, and that is why Juventus have made such a bold move by signing him.

Zidane's presence was thought to be a major draw for Hazard, but the Frenchman stepped down from his role just days after guiding the club to a third successive Champions League trophy last season.

Ronaldo is now enjoying a brief break in Greece following Portugal's exit from the World Cup, where they were defeated 2-1 by Uruguay in the round of 16. Former Madrid team-mate Sami Khedira said he was looking forward to a reunion and other Madrid stars expressed their thanks to Ronaldo.
