Afghanistan's dreams of scripting a fairy-tale turned into a virtual nightmare as a ruthlessly professional India demolished them by an innings and 262 runs inside two days to win the historic one-off Test match here.

Afghanistan are already a long way removed from their early days, when attempting to hit every ball as far as possible was a necessity to prove their manliness. "We didn't want to take them lightly".

They might have played Rashid Khan's variations day in and out in the nets, but on a Chinnaswamy track, with survival being the biggest key, they failed to read the lines of Ashwin and Jadeja. His score is well below the permissible 16.1set for the India and India A team.

The duo of Murali Vijay and Shikhar Dhawan opened the batting and looked quite at ease against an inexperienced Afghanistan bowling attack. He said this Test gave his bowlers the conditions they would encounter in England.

It was the fourth instance in test history of a team being bowled out twice in one day. They can bowl on any surface. Rahane said players from both teams shared good relationships, and mentioned the Afghans' keenness to learn. Ashwin has his skills. Ishant, in whatever spells he bowled, was fantastic. "But even then, that's something we need to think and find a solution", he said. Patience is the key as a bowling unit. For me, it was really easy as Ishant had just played county games and was in good rhythm.

Coming into the game on the back of an impressive display for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL, Umesh did not disappoint as he picked four wickets in the game. Me and Ashwin were talking about restricting them. It was important for all of us to stick to our basics, create some good habits, but credit to Afghanistan, they were fantastic.

First of all I would like to congratulate Afghanistan for reaching this level.

Why were Afghanistan so poor in against India in their first Test outing? "They require gaining more experience", the former Indian captain said.

India must be anxious that they have to play on a spin track in Bangalore. Significantly, that win helped them gain One-Day International status until 2014.

If you are a cricket playing nation, nothing can be more special than making your debut in the whites and donning your country's cap.

"It may have been more competitive but you wouldn't have learned as much as you did from this game because when you play against the best you will know how much you have to do to get where they are". However, this being their first Test match, the margin of the loss wouldn't matter much. Your effort, attitude and intention should always be about winning but you get to learn plenty off the field as players, like respecting each other. This is just the beginning so you can not really blame them. You can not blame them (for their batting performances). Ravindra Jadeja took 4 wickets for India in the second innings. "It is about playing those matches", he said.

Afghanistan made their debut in worldwide Test cricket early this week. "I believe that they will get there". Afghanistan's debut was the 21st two-day Test, only the second in Asia and just the sixth in the last 70 years.

Rahane also had words of appreciation for Afghanistan despite their abject surrender in the match. It's all in the mind.
