American comedian Roseanne Barr says she's exhausted of "being attacked and belittled", and blames sleep aid Ambien for her tweet that compared a black former Obama administration official to an ape, a racist remark that sparked outrage and the cancellation of her TV show. Barr - who has been tweeting for months about the 4chan-born Qanon theory that ludicrously alleges Democratic leadership are members of a Satanic paedophilia cartel - sent out a racist tweet smearing Barack Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett, resulting in the show's abrupt cancellation by ABC. The tweet points out that while pharmaceutical drugs do have side effects, "racism is not a known side effect of any Sanofi medication".
ABC has also made an effort to promote shows featuring people who are not neurotypical.
President Donald Trump weighed in on the Roseanne Barr controversy with a complaint Wednesday that he never got an apology from ABC with an apology for the 'for the frightful statements made and said about me on ABC'.
Gilbert called Barr's comments "abhorrent" and said she was "disappointed in her actions to say the least".
Later, Barr denied that she was putting the blame on Ambien, saying it was "just an explanation not an excuse".
She also retweeted a long post by Michael Fishman, who played her son, D.J. In his tweet, the actor bemoaned the impact of Barrs words on the cast and crew and said the shows story lines were often about inclusiveness.
Roseanne Barr blamed sleeping pills for the racist tweet that got her ABC show canned.
Mr. Trump said nothing about the content of Roseanne Barr's remarks, which were immediately declared racist.
ABC and Disney had taken notable steps to be more inclusive in its entertainment, and Dungey is the first black to be entertainment president of a major broadcast network.
"Wow. unreal", Barr tweeted at Gilbert.
In another tweet, Barr called billionaire Democratic donor and a Holocaust survivor George Soros "a Nazi" who "turned in his fellow Jews 2 be murdered in concentration camps & stole their wealth".
